Indian equities may see positive start on Friday, tracking bullish trend across SGX Nifty Index Futures and firm cues from global peers. Overseas, Asian stocks were trading higher, following strong closing on Wall Street in overnight trade, as investors shrugged off trade war concerns and shifted focus to domestic event. Back home, bullish trends in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for September delivery, which were trading at 11,355.50, up by 43.50 points or 0.38 per cent, at 10:56 AM, Singapore Time, also indicated a positive opening for local bourses. On the economy front, the government of India has hiked interest rates of slew of small savings schemes for the third quarter ended December 31, 2018 by up to 40 bps, a move that is likely to attract fixed income investors. On the corporate front, shares of YES Bank will remain in focus after many brokerage firms downgraded the stock after the RBI asked its managing director and CEO Rana Kapoor to step down after an extended term till January 31, 2019. On the IPO front, state-run Ircon International’s 470-crore initial public offering was subscribed nearly ten times on the final day of bidding on Wednesday. The company on Monday launched its three-day initial public offering today of 9,905,157 shares of Rs 10 each in the price band Rs 470-475 per share.

On Wednesday, Indian equities ended a volatile trading session lower for the third straight session as lack of fresh triggers and selling across FMCG, realty, banks and automobiles stocks weighed on the indices. Early today market opened higher on firm global cues, but saw a sharp selloff in the last hour of the day’s trade mainly due to heavy losses in index heavyweights such as HDFC, HDFC Bank, Indusind Bank, Maruti Suzuki, YES Bank and ITC. The broader market witnessed hefty selling with MidCap and SmlCap indices falling as much as 0.72 per cent and 0.98 per cent, respectively. The 30-share benchmark index closed trade at 37121.22, down by 169.45 points or by 0.45 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 11234.35, down by 44.55 points or by 0.39 per cent.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were State Bank of India 40759431.00, Vedanta Ltd. 18255648.00, YES Bank Ltd. 16185496.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. 15942065.00, Reliance Industries Ltd. 11265786.00.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 152.34 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 33074.31 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 266106 with a total turnover of Rs. 24936.60 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 925999 with a total turnover of Rs. 64319.83 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 18329636 with a total turnover of Rs. 1894909.00 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 876637 with a total turnover of Rs. 66161.95 Crore.

As on September 19, 2018, the FIIs stood as net seller in both equity and debt markets. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 4698.23 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 372.65 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 5801.96 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 551.06 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -1103.73 Crore and Rs. -178.41.
